Welcome to this digital Ark
Noah's Ark was intended to protect animals from impending doom.
This web site is intended to protect (and share) pictures, memories and anecdotes
about St. Florence from the doom of being forgotten.
This is work in progress
In my childhood and youth (1955 till about 1970) St. Florence was a very small village .
That time when:
- St. Florence had active farms within the village,
- Flemish Close was a large field with a chestnut tree in the middle,
Ridgeway View, Longstone et al did not exist.
- the main shop, a green tin shack, had an electric light, had no water but did have a bucket of water for
the shopkeeper to wash his hands in after handling the earth covered local potates,
- the school taught children to write using chalk and a slate,
- and when Mrs. Nun (of blessed memory) cooked those wonderful school dinners especially the custard and stoggy/sweet puddings.
