It is a family legend that when my parents built on the back of the house, you can see the work in progress in the picture, that my father went outside to speak to my mother. She asked him where I was, to which my father jokingly replied "climbing up the ladder".

One of the builders overheard my father and went to check.

He found me, about 18 months old, trying to get up the first rung.

I left St. Florence in 1974 and went to university. A year later my parents moved to Pembroke Dock.

But they did not tell me where they had gone.
Oh no.
So when I came home mid-term I had to ask a neighbour, Mr. Hodge from 1 Morgans Terrace where my family had moved to.
Have you ever felt a bit unloved?

Today (2026) I am living in Germany, and am proud of my 3 2 1 0 boast.

I spent a joyous 40+ years in telecommunications covering everything from designing equipment to international consultancy.
But have always found a reason/excuse to include computing in my work.

Now, in my retirement, I busy myself with:

Have I been back to St. Florence?

No? Not in almost 30 years. Forgive me, but it hurts me a bit to see how things have changed.

I do not begrudge the changes, please do not begrudge me my memories.
