Scan Filters

When Dup Finder is required to scan from a file system (local or network), it defaults to scanning all files under the user selected starting path.

This includes hidden, system and read-only files. It simply scans any file it can find.

It is possible to apply a simple filter on the file name (including extension) only. There is no support for applying any other filter (e.g. on the path name, or the last write date,..).

Because it uses the Win32 API FindFirstFile family of functions, it can only handle filters using exact text matches, or text matches using the wildcard characters * and ?.

  • * matches a string of unspecified length
  • ? matches a single character.

A filter of say *1?R*  would match to a file with the name Test demo 01QR.txt

The default is   *
